The people of Norden and Rochdale Borough are today mourning the loss of local councillor, Ann Metcalfe. Ann who was a Norden resident all here life was born in 1945 and had been a local councillor in the ward for a decade. She was a friend to many local people, a much loved public figure and during her time in public service worked tirelessly to serve the community.
Mayor of Rochdale, fellow ward councillor and close friend, Jim Gartside said today: “Sad, oh it’s very sad and very sad for her partner Alan too because they did a lot together. She was a great support to me and really fantastic to have as a councillor in the same ward. It has been a delight to work with her. Everybody liked and respected Ann.”
Ann will be remembered for her active role in village life which included fighting against the original Scout Moor wind farm development and appointments at both Norden Community School and Whittaker Moss Primary and Nursery. Here public life also saw her take on many other roles, serving the wider borough.
NEEVA Chairman and friend Peter Winkler said "I have known Ann since I came to the village; she has been a good friend and was the person who nominated me for my role at NEEVA. She has always been a hard-working councillor who believed in local community and acting on behalf of the people she served. Today’s news is a great sadness for all of us and our thoughts are with her family."
