British Cycling's premier road cycling event, the OVO Tour of Britain, will be passing through Norden during stage 8 of the tour at approximately 12:45pm on Saturday 14th September.
The route will pass through Rochdale coming along: Broad Lane, Oldham Road, Central Park, Wood Street, Molesworth Street, John Street, Newgate, The Esplanade, Dane Street, and Mellor Street before heading along Edenfield Road through Norden Village.
This is a great opportunity to come out and watch one of British Cycling's most prestigious events right on your doorstep. We are encouraging spectators to come out and line the route to cheer on the riders as they make their way through the village. Don't forget to bring your flags and homemade banners down to cheer on the riders as they pass by.
You will be able to see the event at a convenient spot near you as the racers will pass right through the village, from one end to the other, along Edenfield Road. Better still, come and soak up the race day atmosphere and cheer the riders on in the centre of Norden Village, where we will be set up to welcome the tour with banners and flags and local businesses will be welcoming spectators with a range of special offers, food and drinks.
Norden Ward Councillor, Peter Winkler, who has been coordinating the event in the village said: "This is a rare opportunity for local people to see such an incredible sporting event right on their doorsteps and one which we hope lots of people will come out to support. The centre of the village will offer great views of the race action and perfect photo opportunities so come along."
Spectators are being encouraged to come along and line both sides of Edenfield Road to cheer on riders along the length of the village.
