Many readers may not be aware that a small ward fund is made available in Norden each year. These funds are provided through Rochdale Township and are designed to give an opportunity for members of the community to help direct public funds to projects and facilities that really matter in the local community.
In recent years these funds have helped to achieve many different benefits including new grit and litter bins, support for local clubs and groups, planting schemes, highway and footpath improvements, information leaflets, Christmas lights, CCTV and much more.
Norden’s ward fund is just a few thousand pounds and there are various conditions on the type of things that it can be used for. Inevitably not every suggestion can be supported but all suitable projects are considered by a group of local people and Ward Councillors who ensure that this money is put to good use and makes a huge difference within our community.
Councillor Winkler said: “Information about the ward fund is often discussed at the Norden Area Forum but if people don’t attend these meetings they might not know about what’s available and how it is used. The ward fund can’t solve every problem but I would like to see more people having a say in how this money is spent in our area.”
So we want to know from you: What do you think this money should be spent on this year to make our ward better? Could we help your group? Whatever your thoughts we would love to hear from you. It’s your money, so let’s hear from you about how we should use it.
