Norden village has been in gridlock this morning (Saturday 22nd June 2019) after police were called to an incident on Edenfield Road.
Vehicles on the Rochdale-bound stretch of Edenfield Road backed up through Norden Village after a male driving a black Audi A3 crashed into the central reservation close to the Norden Bar & Grill and spun the car into the school fence, blocking the footpath and highway.
The driver then proceeded to run from the vehicle, taking the keys with him meaning that the vehicle could not be moved and leaving police no option but to close the road on safety grounds.
As cars backed up beyond the Bridge Inn pub and along all the side roads in the village police conducted a search of the area where they found the driver hiding in a garden. The man was taken by police, keys recovered and the car moved to get traffic flowing again.
There is no official word on the condition of the driver but local shopkeepers have reported that the driver had been in the village earlier causing a disturbance.
